Homeopathic Treatment of Tendonitis

Homeopathic Treatment of Tendonitis

This article presents four homeopathic remedies, well proven in the treatment of joint affections and tendonitis in particular.

Causes & Treatment

Tendonitis usually is result from trauma or injury, or from overload of the muscular-skeleton system.

Though homeopathic treatment is highly effective, in these cases it is not enough. Full rest of the affected joints is necessary, and most importantly – removal of the exciting cause for the affection. What is more, the poor habits which had lead to this affection – either overactive sports or bad allocation of physical straining – should be abolished if one wants to achieve complete cure.

There are four well known homeopathic remedies considered as chief therapeutics for inflammation of tendons. These are Ruta graveolens, Rhus toxicodendron, Phytolacca decandra and Rhododendron chrysanthum.

They are well known for their affinity to ligaments, flexor tendons, periosteum and fibrous tissues. Of course they have other areas of affinity; but in the descriptions bellow the emphasis is put on the influence on the tendons and joints in general.

The successful homeopathic treatment must also include certain cell salts which serve as ingredients of joint tissues. These salts shall be subject of the next article.

Ruta graveolens

Ruta graveolens

Ruta graveolens

Ruta is one of the chief remedies for injured joints, tendons, bones and especially bruised bones. The pains are bruised, sore, aching, and the patient is restless. The remedy has affinity for fibrous tissue, flexor tendons, joints, ankles, wrists, cartilages, periosteum, uterus and skin. It cures sprains with weakness in joints, after Arnica.

It is the first remedy for inflammation of tendon originated from strains, accompanied by continuous tormenting pain. Therefore we should think of Ruta when the patients are physical workers.

Concomitant symptom is tremendous stiffness in the joint. The pain ameliorates from warm applications.

Rhus toxicodendron

Rhus toxicodendron

Rhus toxicodendron

Rhus-tox affects fibrous tissue, joints and tendons producing pains and stiffness. It’s close to Ruta by the stiffness of muscles and joints. But it differs from Ruta by the great relief from continuous motion; people feel great pain in the beginning of the motion but much better from long standing movements. They frequently change their position in bed.

Rhus-tox is useful after strains and over lifting. The pains are tearing, shooting, stitching, worse at night; there is no rest in any position. The pains cause sensation as if the joints were dislocated.

The symptoms appear on the left side or go from left to right. Ameloiration occurs from continued motion, hot bath and heat.

Great aggravation from wetting the feet during perspiration and during hard physical exertion.

Phytolacca decandra

Phytolacca decandra

Phytolacca is well known remedy with prominent affection on the breasts and tonsils. However it has powerful action on the fibrous tissue, tendons and joints, and also on the osseous tissues and periosteum. The complaints are usually on the right side.

Pains come and go suddenly and change places. There is great prostration, soreness and restlessness. Pains fly like electric shocks, lancinating and shifting rapidly.

The right shoulder is stiff and raising of the arm is impossible. The finger joints are hardly swollen, shiny and painful. There are cutting drawing pains in the right hip causing the leg to be drawn up.

The pains grow worse when weather changes and from heat. Amelioration occurs from cold applications.

Rhododendron chrysanthum

Rhododendron chrysanthum

Rhododendron chrysanthum

Rhododendron has affinity to fibrous tissues, small joints and bones. Patients have great sensitiveness to stormy wet weather and are afraid of thunders.

It is rheumatic remedy with marked symptoms of rheumatism in the hot months. The complaints aggravate before storm.

The joints are swollen and there is rheumatic tearing in the long bones, more pronounced on the right side. The pains appear mostly in shoulders and arms; and in wrists, which are felt as if bruised.

All pains aggravate during rest and when weather change. Interesting mark about this remedy is the sleep position with crossed legs.
