Homeopathy & Psychological Disorders in Children | Tuberculinum

Psychology is the science which examines and explains the reasons for those manifestations, usually described as ‘problematic behavior’ in children and infants.

Homeopathy on the other hand is the science which helps children to accept life and adapt to the challenges of growth. Whenever interference is needed, homeopathic remedies ensure mild and opportune means for it. This doesn’t mean that parents should give many remedies to their children. What is important here is the awareness of the parents, that there is a way to help their children, without harmful medications or expensive psychotherapists. When the homeopathic remedy is prescribed correctly, results occur fast and are frequently considered to be close to miracle.

This article is the first piece from the forthcoming series devoted to the influence of homeopathy on the behavior of children. The article set shall present  mental & emotional pattern of certain homeopathic remedies and their applicability for behavior disorders in children.

Tuberculinum bovinum Kent

This remedy is the nosode of the tubercular miasm. Without going into depth into homeopathic theory about miasms, I have to mention here that the family hereditary and the personal history of diseases have great value for successful homeopathic treatment.

The tubercular diathesis predisposes children to certain diseases, like for instance: in the lower respiratory system these are pneumonia, asthma and weakness in lungs, all these progressing to chronisity; in the urogenital system these are enuresis, early masturbation, and menstrual cramps and back pains; in the musculoskeletal system we observe rheumatoid arthritis, bone inflammations and scoliosis; end of example.

The mental pattern of Tuberculinum is quite characteristic and indeed leads to the prescription of this remedy. However the mental and emotional symptoms of Tuberculinum are similar to some other polychrests like Sulphur, Medorrhinum, Phosphorus, Calcarea phosphorica and others. Therefore it is not advisable for parents to treat their children alone but to search professional help.

The Tuberculinum Child

Children who need Tuberculinum are fair, usually having light complexion and bright red lips; with thin shiny hair, long silky eyelashes, transparent skin. The body is tall and slim, the chest is flat and pale; physically these children are weak. They grow in length rapidly, their body emaciates, and are easily tired.

They frequently catch colds without knowing how, and alter ill symptoms –the respiratory acute is barely healed and they develop pains in the lower extremities, or diarrhea, headache, etc. The acute diseases commence rapidly and cease suddenly, and change locality often.

These are fine, nervous kids, restless and always wanting to have fun, to go out, see new things. Often they are having fun on the account of people around them – parents, nurse, nanny, elder brothers and sisters. In their nature we see certain destructiveness – they break things or ruin cube towers with great pleasure – which may reach high levels.

In a state of balance they are happy, amusing, funny and resoursful, playing all the time. At all times they desire change.

The child, after being seriously ill from acute inflammation, whether respiratory or other,  or during difficult dentition, comes to behave differently. Parents observe that it has become restless, contradictory, and insolent. It constantly opposes its parents, shows obstinacy and demands that things should go according to its desires. The parents often see their child sitting on the floor, joyfully destroying their favorite magazine or newspaper. They also find out to their dismay that their son or daughter has become aggressive towards them, and in school towards teachers and schoolmates; often participating in fights. In store, after being refused from receiving something, it throws itself on the floor, kicking and screaming, panting and hitting its mother.

At home these kids behave as awful as outside. They are very irritable, refuse to obey to anyone, and constantly demand something; destroy their toys and household belongings, and say ‘no’ to everything.

Tubercular diathesis provokes sudden changes in children’s mood. They may be extremely quiet and good, only to suddenly become impossible. Usually these problems are unlocked by acute disease, or are accompanied by a chronic one; like asthma or constant headache.

The homeopathic treatment brings visible change in child’s behavior. Not that the hereditary predisposition will disappear – that is not possible. But the children learn to control their emotions, and to conform with the world; thus they are able to unfold their creativity, becoming complete persons.

However Tuberculinum is usually not the only remedy which is needed for treating behavior deviations. More often it is an intercurrent remedy which helps the child to manifest other symptoms, leading to another chronic remedy in this delicate journey.
